NEW RAINBOW EMBROIDERY FLOSS SETS // More rainbows! I really love this thread. It’s a wool blend, 50% wool and 50% polyamide fiber. Four strands, easily separable. I almost always use two strands for embroidery and appliqué projects. It’s got a soft, feathery, matte texture and it’s just beautiful. I’ve got tons of colors in the shop and adding more this coming week! Look for two different rainbow collections as well as a Halloween colors set! Happy stitching!
NEW SASHIKO THREAD SETS // Rainbow colors are everywhere these days, and now you can get this great set of Sashiko threads in seven rainbow colors! Visit the Handcraeft shop and pick up a Sashiko needle pack as well and have a look at the expanding collection of Olympus cotton hand sewing thread colors. Happy stitching!
FUN NEW PROJECTS WITH NATURALLY DYED FABRICS // I’ve been doing a fair bit of fabric dyeing with plants, flowers and food these past few months. I’m working on several projects with those fabrics, and here’s one small one I whipped out yesterday – lavender sachets! I’ve decided that our last slow stitch gathering before the upcoming summer break will be on the summer solstice, Friday, June 21st. It also happens to be my wedding anniversary, but I have a flexible and understanding husband. 🙂 I’m making these sachets available first to folks who attend the summer solstice stitch, and they’ll be in the shop shortly after.
The fabrics were all dyed in my kitchen with a variety things. I used a soy milk painting technique on the pieces with crosses/plusses, then dyed them in black tea, the purple comes from hibiscus flowers, the bright yellow from Marigold flowers, the muted pink from avocado skins and stones, the taupe from eucalyptus leaves, and the lighter pink comes from Bitter Dock that I harvested from my garden. I’m changing how I see plants and what I’ve traditionally considered as “weeds.” These poor plants seem to have a bad reputation! The Bitter Dock, by the way, was really interesting to play with, and each of the three or four dye baths I used yielded a different color. I highly recommend trying it, but I warn you, it’s highly addictive! Enjoy!
VALDANI WOOL THREADS // New to the shop! I’m so pleased to bring you new hand-dyed variegated 100% Australian Merino wool threads from Valdani. Just look at the gorgeous colors! I haven’t decided yet which color(s) I’ll choose first and what I’ll use them for, but I can’t wait to try them out. I’ve also got some skeins of undyed threads that I plan to try out in some Marigold and avocado dye in the next few weeks. Stay tuned! In the meanwhile, come on over to the shop and pick up your favorite thread colors. 🖤
